The name of the upcoming Hyundai small car has finally come out in the open. Codenamed the HA/H800, the upcoming small car from Hyundai will be called the Eon and will be launched in October, 2011. The Korean automaker plans to sell 15,000 units of the Eon every month and will only launch it in India initially. Eon means ‘indefinitely long period of time’ and will rival the Maruti Suzuki Alto. The price of the Hyundai Eon is expected to be below Rs. 3 lakhs and the car is expected to replace the Santro in the future.
The Hyundai Eon will be powered by a new 800cc, 3-cylinder, petrol engine which will produce around 50 BHP of power. The design is in line with the Fluidic theme which all Hyundai vehicle are adapting. Although not a tall boy, the Eon will have more space than the Santro and the Alto. Trial production of the Eon has already commenced with full scale production set to start shortly. Will the Eon do what the Nano failed? Create volumes for the company and thus boosting the top line significantly.
