Hyosung To Launch GD250N Based GD250R Full Faired Bike In July

DSK Hyosung will be launching a new 250cc motorcycle in the lower end of the quarter-litre segment in July this year. While the company’s initial plan was to launch the GD250N 250cc street-fighter motorcycle showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo, Hyosung has chosen to bring in the fully-faired version of the GD250N first instead. Christened as the GD250R, the fully-faired bike gets liquid-cooling and fuel injection and will be assembled at DSK’s facility in Wai.

The upcoming GD250R shares its complete underpinnings with the GD250N. The motorcycle uses the same 250cc single-cylinder engine that will be tuned to produce around 28 BHP of power and around 24 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed transmission. Compared to the GD250N, the fully faired design on the GD250R will make it more aerodynamic that will help sport a marginally higher top speed than the street-fighter version.

The Hyosung GD250R will also get 37 mm inverted forks at the front and a monoshock setup at the rear from the naked sibling, while stopping power will come from the petal disc brakes at both ends. The GD250R will also sport a digital instrument cluster, like the GD250N, but will be updated with clip-on handlebars as opposed to the straight-wide bar used on the GD250N, offering a sportier seating position.

Given the love for full faired bikes in our country, Hyosung is trying to woe a wider audience with the GD250R that will be competing against the upcoming KTM RC 200 and the Honda CBR250R in the single-cylinder, quarter-litre segment. The Korean motorcycle is also expected to sport the Indian spec MRF tyres seen on the RC 200 and is currently undergoing the homologation process. The GD250R is expected to carry a price tag of Rs. 2.2 lakhs (ex-showroom, Pune).

The Hyosung GD205N street-fighter on the other hand could make it to the Indian shores later this year. A time frame for the launch however, has not been determined yet. Hyosung is expected to offer the GD250N with custom paintjobs and new accessories to lure Indian buyers.
