Korean motorcycle manufacturer Hyosung has finally launched the Aquila 250 in India at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi today. The bike will be called Aquila 250 and won’t carry the GV prefix like the international versions. This will be the Aquila 250’s second outing in the Indian motorcycle market, as the bike was sold under the Kinetic-Hyosung partnership in the previous decade. DSK-Hyosung has displayed its entire international range of motorcycles from the ST7 cruiser to the RT125D at its stall.
The Aquila 250 gets the quintessential cruiser styling with oodles of chrome. The cruiser gets its styling hints from the older sibling the Aquila 650 Pro but has a classic cruiser look which is much different from the GV650. There is only one variant on offer and is available only in two colours namely red and black.
The Aquila 250 is powered by an oil-cooled, DOHC, EFI, 8-valve, 249cc V-Twin engine that is mated to a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox. The engine is capable of producing 26.21 BHP of power at 9000 RPM and 21.37 Nm of torque at 7000 RPM (detuned over the international version). It will be returning a fuel efficiency of 27 – 30 km/l while top speed is 128 km/hr. The Aquila 250 is equipped with a 14-litre fuel tank and should offer a decent touring range. The stopping power comes from single disc brakes up front and a drum brake set-up at the rear; and receives telescopic suspension up front and hydraulic double-shocks at the rear. The front uses a 110 mm tyre while the rear receives a 150 mm.
As reported by us earlier, Hyosung has officially launched the Aquila 250 at a price of Rs. 2,69,000/- (ex-showroom) and will be bringing it to India via the CKD route, while the bookings for the cruiser had begun in the last week of January itself with a down payment of Rs. 25,000/-. The Aquila 250 has stepped in the untapped quarter-litre cruiser segment that till now has been ruled by Royal Enfield. While the smallest Harley still costs almost twice as much, it will certainly be the most viable alternative from the REs and for those upgrading to a bigger cruiser from the Bajaj Avenger. Hyosung will begin deliveries soon post the Auto Expo.
