At present, the DSK Hyosung lineup in India consists of the GT250R, which has the lowest displacement of 250cc engine. The bike maker is now considering adding a lower displacement engine of 125cc, which is made keeping the Indian market in mind. DSK Hyosung tie up is now aiming for a bigger and brighter future starting with the low displacement 125cc motorcycle. The idea behind introducing their motorcycle in the 125cc segment is to expand their customer base in India and achieve big volumes.
Hyosung and DSK have together planned a big expansion programme for the Indian market. The Indian Korean joint venture company will commence construction of a brand new motorcycle production facility in July this year. The new facility is spread over 100 acres of land near Karad, Maharashtra. The manufacturer is planning to shift their entire operations from the Wai assembly plant to the new facility coming up soon. DSK and Hyosung together intend to develop and produce bikes for the Indian market in India.
After the joint venture gets a hang of the Indian market scenario with the 125cc bike, they will then try their luck on the higher sales volume commuter segments. Their plan to foray into the commuter segment is in its initial stage, but for the time being, DSK Motowheels will focus on their production operations at Karad. The manufacturer hasn’t revealed much on the small capacity 125cc bike but the motorcycle is being made specifically for the Indian market, which could be exported from India to select global markets eventually.
