Husqvarna India is gearing up to launch the Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 by the end of the year and it will be all the better for it.
Of course, the 401 twins from Husqvarna will share the engine and lots more from the KTM Duke 390, just like the 250 twins did with the corresponding KTM product.
Production of the 401 range will take place at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant and like the 250s, the 401s are expected to receive India-specific changes, with the most obvious ones being the use of alloy rims and a pillion grab handle.
Powering the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 is the 373cc liquid-cooled DOHC motor seen on the Duke. Power and torque figures are expected to stay the same, at 44 PS and 37 Nm, respectively. It will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
Suspension and braking components are expected to remain similar, with Husqvarna having the chance to work on the feel of the motorcycles to suit the different categories the Svartpilen and Vitpilen sit in.
Currently, the Husqvarna 250 twins are priced at about Rs. 25,000/- lower than the KTM Duke 250. Going by this strategy, Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 India launch price, along with its sibling, the Vitpilen 401, might be around Rs. 2.35 lakhs (ex-showroom).
This would be advantageous since the bikes will sit in the price gap between the KTM Duke 250 and Duke 390, giving them a marketing advantage. The 401 twins will rival the above mentioned Duke 390, upcoming BS6 BMW G 310 R in the market.
