The launch of the first e-scooter from Husqvarna that will be based on the Bajaj Chetak will take place in 2022.
While the earlier plan was to put the scooter on sale this year, it is likely that the pandemic made things quite difficult for the automaker, thus pushing the EV’s launch a bit further.
Like the scooter on which it is based, the Husqvarna e-scooter will also come powered by a 4 kW electric motor and should sport the 3 kWh battery pack as well.
Expect the EV to get features like LED lighting, a digital instrument cluster, keyless ignition, among others and if it looks like anything like the model shown in the image above (which was leaked from an investor presentation held by Pierer Mobility in 2020), it would also look very futuristic.
Bajaj Auto and Pierer Mobility have not only developed the 4 kW electric motor, but also 10 kW (13.4 HP) and 15 kW (20.1 HP) motors as well and all of them will use a low voltage 48 V system.
The 20.1 HP motor will be used in the Husqvarna E-Pilen which is also being developed alongside the brand’s first electric scooter. It is likely that the E-Pilen will be put on sale after the Husqvarna e-scooter launch takes place next year.
Both EVs will be built by Bajaj in India and in order to cater to future demand, the Indian bike manufacturer is also constructing a new facility in Pune at an investment of Rs. 650 crores. It is expected to be operational by 2023.
