Husqvarna has unveiled the E-Pilen Concept which marks the entry of the brand into the world of electric mobility.
It was in September last year when the brand’s EV plans, which also includes an electric scooter or E-Scooter, were leaked and it looks like its first electric model will be the E-Pilen.
Designed very much like the current Svartpilen and Vitpilen models, the Husqvarna E-Pilen Concept has minimal bodywork and could be looked at as a bare-bones commuter.
Upfront, there is a simple circular headlight, presumably an LED unit and a short mudguard, while the ‘fuel tank’ section is pretty much the same as the quarter-litre Husqvarnas. There are even panels which resemble radiator shrouds next to the tank.
However, it is the side angle which is most interesting, for pretty much every aspect of the bike is exposed. The frame (in which the electric powertrain is housed with much room to spare), subframe and rear monoshock are all literally out in the open.
This should make it easy for a person to clean the bike and spot issues, if any, that might occur over time. And yes, Husqvarna has given the E-Pilen Concept a short seat and a slim tail lamp.
The electric motorcycle has inverted front forks, alloy wheels and a disc brake upfront and rear. It makes use of a chain, rather than a belt, to drive the rear wheel.
Powering the bike would be a 10.73 HP (8 kW) electric motor. The size of the battery pack from which the motor will draw its power is unknown for now, but, the E-Pilen has a range of 100 km.
According to Husqvarna, the E-Pilen has been given that range for it has been designed as an urban commuter and also to maximise the time between battery charges. In addition, the concept features a swappable battery system.
If the power figure seems a tad too small, fret not, for Husqvarna says this is one of several electric 2-wheeler options under development for urban riders.
Likely to be launched globally in 2022, the Husqvarna E-Pilen Concept will be joined by the firm’s first electric scooter as well.
