Honda has yet again teased us. The Japanese automaker is launching a brand new commuter motorcycle in the market tomorrow. The teaser on the website shows that a “Superstar” is on its way. Honda knows India’s love for Bollywood and this time they are using it as a part of their pre-launch teaser campaign. Obviously, it will be none other than Honda’s brand ambassador and the Khiladi of Bollywood, Akshay Kumar who will be unveiling the product to the media.
Looking at the picture, one can easily determine that Honda is launching a commuter motorcycle, which could be on the “Dream” platform. If it turns to be a motorcycle with the Dream badge, than it could co-exist with the existing CB range of motorcycles. If this Superstar is a sub 100cc motorcycle, it will directly target ex-partner and arch rival Hero MotoCorp’s Splendor. If it turns out to be a 100cc or 125cc motorcycle on the Dream platform, then it will target Bajaj Auto’s premium range of motorcycle, the Bajaj Discover 100T, 125 ST and Hero’s Passion xPro.
Let us wait until tomorrow to find out what Honda has in store for the Indian market and how well their aggressive plans turn out to be in the real world. The company is gunning for the numero uno spot in the Indian market, gathering tremendous pace with the launch of new products. Honda overtook Bajaj Auto in last fiscal year’s sales and aims to displace Hero MotoCorp from the top spot within the next three years.
