Honda has showcased the SUV e:prototype at Auto Shanghai 2021, the production model of which will go on sale in China in spring next year.
That model will be the first among 10 EV models that the Japanese carmaker will introduce within the next 5 years.
The design of the Honda SUV e:prototype bears a striking resemblance to the 2022 HR-V that was revealed in February.
At the front, the car has an aggressive bumper housing an air intake and plenty of lighting elements dominated by the long DRLs that come with the headlight.
Along the sides, the design is clean, with the model having slim ORVMs and door handles that sit flush with the body. Of course, there are large alloy wheels present as well.
At the back, the 2022 HR-Vs design remains on the Honda SUV e:prototype. But, it does get a stop light that runs the full width of the roof spoiler and a different bumper. No interior images have been released as of now.
In addition, Honda also states that this prototype model features the third-generation version of Honda CONNECT that offers functions such as voice-recognition, connectivity, smartphone link, OTA updates, operation of smart home appliances, among others.
Honda says the new generation Honda CONNECT will be available with new models that it will launch in China in the second half of this year. Moreover, the Honda SUV e:prototype will also receive the firm’s ADAS tech.
Thus far, no details of the electric SUV’s powertrain, battery size or other technical specifications have been revealed by the carmaker.
But, Honda will showcase the Breeze PHEV, which is GAC Honda’s first plug-in hybrid model. Based on the CR-V, it has a 2-motor hybrid system called Sport Hybrid i-MMD and is scheduled to go on sale in China in the second half of 2021.
