Honda Updates The Shine 125, Gets New Features & OBD2B Compliance

The Honda Shine 125 has been a popular commuter bike and will be updated in 2025 to meet the latest OBD2B Norms. This refresh also brings much-needed features to the commuter. Let’s understand these features and crucial changes to view how this generation of the Shine 125 translates into the real world.

Updated Engine

The biggest reason the Shine 125 was updated was for the engine to meet OBD2B Norms. The 123.94cc engine produces 14.9 HP and 11 Nm of torque. This means there is no change in horsepower and torque output, which is a worthy achievement in the wake of stricter norms.

New Features

The Honda Shine 125 also receives major feature upgrades for this year, which improve the rider’s comfort. There is a fully digital dash, replacing the semi-digital gauge cluster. This addition brings along a real-time mileage indicator and a distance-to-empty, which is crucial information. This integration will help riders to plan their fuel stops and journey accordingly.

The Rider’s convenience was the top priority when designing this update. As a result, a USB Type-C Port can be found in the dash, which helps riders charge their phones. Not to mention, this will help the riders to navigate through remote areas without worrying about battery draining. Additionally, the service indicator and side stand cut-off are retained from the previous model. The rear tyres also receive an update as they are upsized to a 90-section as compared to the 80-section tyre, aiding grip.

Pricing

The bike continues to be offered in two variants: Drum and Disc. The pricing of the Shine 125 sees an increase as the Drum variant is Rs. 1242/- more expensive than before, and the higher Disc Variant is Rs. 1994 more expensive than before. This makes the Shine 125 priced at Rs. 84,493/- (ex-showroom) for Drum Variant and Rs. 89,245/- (ex-showroom) for Disc Variant.

Outlook

The higher price tag shouldn’t bite the target buyers as it is a marginal increase. However, it would be great if HMSI would publish the fuel economy figures to give clarity to consumers who are concerned about the aspect more than other segments.
