The CBR150R and CBR250R are part of a global recall by Honda and were manufactured between July 2014 to July 2015 in India. They have a defective starter relay switch.
As part of a global recall issued by Honda Motor Corporation, the Japanese automaker’s Indian subsidiary has announced a voluntary recall affecting the CBR150R and CBR250R models that were manufactured between July 2014 to July 2015 in the country. The manufacturer states that the recall has been issued due to a faulty starter relay switch and the component will be replaced on the affected bikes. The company further confirmed that the recall process will commence from mid-August across the country.
Honda concluded that the sealant may have been applied incorrectly during assembly of the starter relay switch (which is a globally sourced part). This can increase resistance across the main fuse, possibly interrupting the motorcycle’s battery voltage to the electrical system. An interruption of the electrical system battery voltage could cause the engine to either not start or stall while in motion. In an extreme case, the increased resistance at the main fuse could cause the starter relay to catch fire.
That said, Honda India says there was no incident of damage or accident reported on any of the single-cylinder CBR bikes in the country. Dealers pan-India will be replacing the starter relay free of cost on the affected units irrespective of the warranty status. More recently, Honda India showcased the updated CBR150R and CBR250R for the 2015 model year at the RevFest with mild cosmetic updates, these cosmetically enhanced and outdated bikes will go on sale around the festive season.
