Honda has launched the fourth generation CR-V in India today. The Japanese automaker has gone the CKD route and for the first time, the CR-V will be assembled in India, at Honda’s Greater Noida plant in UP. The company has sold 13,739 units of the CR-V till date, since the time it was launched in India, way back in July 2003. Those numbers don’t look impressive and the high pricing caused by importing the CR-V from Japan is the reason for the poor sales. However Honda is hoping the more aggressively priced new CR-V will boost sales over its predecessor. Honda is offering the new CR-V in four variants. There are two engines on offer, each available in two trims. A 2.0-litre SOHC i-VTEC engine with 156 PS and 190 Nm, channelling power to the front wheels. The increase in power over the outgoing model is 13 PS. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual in the base version and 5-speed automatic in the top version (of the 2.0-litre engined variants). A 2.4-litre DOHC i-VTEC motor is offered only with a 5-speed automatic gearbox and real time 4-wheel drive. This engine belts out 190 PS and 226 Nm, the increase in power is 29 PS. These engines return a mileage of 13.7 km/l and 12 km/l respectively. Honda has reduced prices over the old CR-V, with the new model costing around Rs. 2 lakhs less than the third generation model.

2013 Honda CR-V Prices (ex-showroom, Delhi) –

The new Honda CR-V is loaded with features although a diesel engine is sorely missed. The top-end model gets a 6.1-inch AVN system and paddle shifters on the steering wheel. 17-inch alloy wheels, ABS, 6 airbags, ECON mode, one touch folding rear seats, leather seats and 5-inch multi-information display are offered on all variants. All automatic transmission variants get Hill Start Assist (HSA). There are two packages on offer – Inspire and Elegance, which offer different styling elements to the exteriors. Honda has no plans to bring the 2.2-litre diesel engine in the CR-V in India at all.
