The Honda HR-V has been spotted in India; will Honda enter the mid-size SUV segment finally?
Rumours about the Honda HR-V’s India launch have been floating since years and there have also been some denials about the vehicle’s launch in India. However, Honda does have a very large gap between the BR-V and CR-V and here’s where another model could fit in.
Given the popularity that mid-size SUVs in India are getting, it could be possible that Honda has had a change of mind and are considering launching the HR-V here. The Honda HR-V has been spotted at the automaker’s plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan.
Globally, the Honda HR-V is offered with a 1.8-litre petrol engine and a CVT gearbox. The engine produces 141 HP and 172 Nm and it is the same unit that powers the Civic. If launched in India, the HR-V with Honda’s 1.5-litre or 1.6-litre diesel engine could also make for a strong contender in the segment.
However, it remains to be seen whether the car is actually going to be launched or not. The vehicle wasn’t launched earlier because its parts had high import content and competitive pricing would have been a task for the manufacturer. If launched in India, the Honda HR-V will give good competition to the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
