Honda HR-V would be a worthy rival to other midsize SUVs

The Honda HR-V launch is currently under evaluation, as the automaker wants to have a product to contend in the Indian midsize SUV segment.

Even new brands like MG and Kia have products in the booming midsize SUV segment and Honda wants to make its presence felt in the segment.

Honda Cars India Limited President Gaku Nakanishi has revealed that the automaker finds the HR-V to be the right fit to take on midsize SUVs in India.

For years, people have been expecting the Honda HR-V launch to happen, especially since there is a price gap of Rs. 20 lakhs between the WR-V and CR-V. Honda is studying the market and will decide on how and when to enter the segment.

Earlier this year, the Honda HR-V was spotted at the automaker’s plant at Tapukara in Rajasthan, further fuelling speculations. The Honda HR-V launch could see the SUV borrow the Civic sedan’s powertrain.

This includes the 1.6-litre diesel, because Honda cannot forgo oil burner models that contribute to 20 percent of its sales, while petrol models stand at 80 percent.

Further, the carmaker has revealed that its online booking model “Honda from Home” is contributing to 40 percent of its sales at present.

On the other hand, Honda Cars India Limited claims that service visits have returned to 66 percent when compared to June 2019, with pre-owned sales channel Honda Auto Terrace also getting good traction.
