Honda Grom and Scoopy recently spotted testing on Indian roads might not be launched here.
The India launch of the Honda Grom and Scoopy may not be happening, as a senior official from Honda said “just testing a product on Indian roads doesn’t always mean it’s going to be launched.” This was told with reference to a question about the Grom and Scoopy being spotted on Indian roads.
Honda had announced that two new motorcycles and scooters would be launched this financial year. With the Africa Twin and Cliq already being launched, a motorcycle and a scooter are yet to see the light of the day.
But we think the Scoopy could still be launched in India. There are other 125cc scooters in the Indian market with a retro appeal. So if Honda launched the Scoopy here, it would actually make sense, unlike the Honda Grom. Even if not for the Scoopy, Honda says a similar kind of model would be launched.
The Honda Grom is a 125cc mini motorcycle which would have no direct rivals if launched here. Honda maintains that it is being tested for something else, possibly the suspension and platform to be used as a platform for an all-new product specific to India.
The Benelli TNT 135, a similarly styled mini bike too was ruled out for the Indian market. There are reports that Honda is also working on a full faired CB Hornet 160R, this could also be that motorcycle that is due for a launch. While some reports state that the CBR maker is readying a 125cc bike to extend its leadership in the 125cc motorcycle segment. However, nothing is certain as of yet.
