The MPG Marathon is a live demonstration of how both the car and the driver can make a massive difference to fuel costs and emissions. Now in its 12th year, it pits teams of contestants together over a two-day event to push for maximum fuel efficiency. Rigorous rounds of testing in real world conditions yet again emphasises the stunning fuel-efficiency of the new Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC. The Honda Civic has clinched third position for overall fuel economy behind the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic at the first position and Renault Clio Dynamique at the second position, both cars being from a segment below the Honda Civic.
The 1.6-litre i-DTEC powered Honda Civic managed to achieve a fuel economy of 30 km/l over a stretch of 588 kilometres. The car was driven by independent journalists and company car drivers on the UK roads. It has exceeded the official claimed figure of 28 km/l. The Honda Civic fell short by just 1.5 km/l from the top performer. The Civic also recorded the third lowest CO2 emissions releasing just 94 g/km. The New Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC produces a healthy power output of 118 HP and a torque rating of 300 Nm.
The 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine is the first to be launched in Europe under Honda’s flagship Earth Dreams technology environment programme offering customers exceptional balance of high fuel economy, low emissions and impressive performance. The MPG Marathon started off from Tankersley Manor, near Sheffield, on October 9th. The weather conditions were cited to be the toughest this year owing to the strong winds, long hill climb and heavy traffic. Despite this, the Honda Civic with an impeccable combination of performance and efficiency managed a podium finish.
