The complete specs of the City Hybrid are out and Honda will not be amused
While Honda Cars India is gearing up to launch the City Hybrid here, the car’s specs and list of variants have already been leaked thanks to its type approval certification finding its way on to a government website.
According to the document, the City Hybrid, which is officially named the fifth-generation Honda City e:HEV (i-MMD), will be offered in only 2 variants, namely – V and ZX.
The top-spec ZX grade will also come with Honda Sensing, a suite of driver-assistance systems which comprises adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, lane keep assist, among others.
Visually, the City e:HEV is expected to look like a sporty variant of the C-segment sedan’s regular version. It should come with a blacked radiator grille and ORVMs, a boot lid spoiler and some red highlights inside.
According to the leaked Honda City Hybrid specs, the sedan will have a gross weight between 1636 kg (V) and 1655 kg (ZX). It will come with a 0.734 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack that weighs 14.5 kg.
The 1498cc, 4-cylinder (Atkinson cycle) petrol engine in the car makes a maximum of 97 BHP between 5600 and 6400 RPM. This engine does not power the driving wheels until the sedan hits high speeds.
Instead, the wheels will be driven by a 80 kW (107 BHP) electric motor (maximum output at 3500 RPM) which will be assisted by the petrol engine when necessary. A second electric motor will function as a starter-generator.
Upon market launch, the City Hybrid is expected to become the most fuel-efficient petrol-powered sedan in India. It will rival the more powerful version of the Skoda Slavia in the market.
