Honda Cars India has announced the revised price list of the 4th gen City sedan that it will continue to keep producing.
To be offered in only two variants – SV and V, the car will be available only with a petrol engine and manual gearbox combination.
Both SV and V trims are priced below Rs. 10 lakhs, with their ex-showroom (Delhi) prices being Rs. 9,29,900/- for the SV and Rs. 9,99,900/- for the V variant.
The 4th generation Honda City will be sold alongside the 5th generation model that is priced between Rs. 10,89,900/- and Rs. 14,64,900/- (ex-showroom, Delhi).
However, the key difference is that the 4th generation model will be sold without a diesel engine option, which its successor gets. It will be powered by the tried and tested 1.5-litre petrol unit.
For Honda, the 4th generation City has been very successful. So far, cumulatively, it has sold over 3.5 lakh units since its launch in January 2014 in India.
Now, the car will serve the purpose of being an entry-level variant into the City brand, since the new City has moved further up the price range, as Honda pitches it as a more premium offering.
With this repositioning, the 4th gen City now competes head-on with the Maruti Ciaz as Honda plans to put a dent on Maruti’s market share in the C-segment space. Other contenders at the affordable end of the C-segment like the Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento will face the heat as well.
