Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) announced that the CB Shine 125 has achieved a milestone with the sale of 30 lakh units sold in the country, since its launch. This also makes the CB Shine India’s best selling motorcycle in the 125cc segment and Honda’s most sold motorcycle globally for the first time. The CB Shine leads the segment by a massive 61 percent margin compared to other products, which is a considerable margin.
The Honda CB Shine 125 motorcycle was first launched in 2006 in the Indian market and captured 9 percent market share in the first year of launch itself. The motorcycle’s first milestone came in the form of 10 lakh units sold in October 2010, while the 20 lakh mark was achieved even faster within 25 months in November 2012. The 30 lakh mark on the other hand was achieved in a short span of just 16 months in April 2014. Honda states that in spite of the overall slowdown in the market in the last fiscal, the CB Shine managed to achieve record sales of 7.40 lakh units sold in 2013-14, while the highest ever single month sales was achieved in March 2014 with 94,300 units sold.
The Honda CB Shine is powered by a 124.7cc engine that outputs 10.12 BHP of power at 7500 RPM and 10.54 Nm of torque at 5500 RPM. The engine is coupled to a 4-speed gearbox and delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 65 km/l. The CB Shine competes with the TVS Phoenix, Suzuki Slingshot Plus, Bajaj Discover 125 and the Hero Super Splendor in the 125cc segment. In a bid to keep up with the demand for the CB Shine, Honda is producing the motorcycle at its Tapukara (Rajasthan) as well as Narsapura (Karnataka) plants in the country.
