Honda BR-V Spotted Ahead Of Global Debut [Updated]

Honda will be displaying the BR-V compact SUV concept version at the GIIAS 2015 tomorrow. Few images of the same have already found their way to the internet.

Upmarket elements like the projector headlamps and alloy wheels stand out

Compact SUVs have found their way into major markets and have been customer’s loved vehicles. It is reflected in the sales figures and also the fact that more and more manufacturers are coming up with such cars. Honda is the latest brand to join the party albeit a bit late. It released a sketch of the BR-V a few weeks ago and will be displaying the concept vehicle at the Gaikindo Indonesian International Auto Show (GIIAS) starting tomorrow. Couple of images of the same have already leaked out and give us a fair idea of what to expect from the new Japanese kid.

Based on the Brio platform, the BR-V doesn’t share too many exterior components with the other vehicles on the same platform. However, when one takes a closer look at the side profile, it does bear an uncanny resemblance to the Mobilio. While it does take away a bit from the SUV character, it will lend the interiors an airy feel due to the large glass area. Speaking of the interiors, pictures of the same aren’t out yet but we hope it doesn’t share the interior components with its siblings of the same platform as they would look a bit dated on a new generation compact SUV.

The bold chrome grille at the front will not look good to the eyes of an enthusiast but the chrome loving mass market customers are sure to lap it up. The front bumper gets aggressive styling and a skid plate which adds to the SUV character. Body cladding running all around the body will help prevent scratches and lend a tough look to the BR-V. Projector headlamps look premium and chrome touches all around will make it a seemingly premium car. Expected to come with the same engines as the Honda City, we expect Honda to not charge a premium for the same. An India reveal is expected at the 2016 Auto Expo.

Update – More pictures of the Honda BR-V have leaked. The car doesn’t get the same interiors like the Brio, instead the cabin is a mix of the Brio and Jazz/City. The steering wheel has been carried over from the Brio and looks a bit out of place here.

The centre console takes a lot of design cues from the Jazz and City
There is some Honda Pilot influence in the design of the BR-V
The side profile reminds one of the Mobilio MPV
Overdose of chrome seems to be Honda’s new formula for success
