Honda Activa electric launch timeline officially revealed
Honda is preparing to launch the Activa electric in India. The Japanese two-wheeler maker has announced the timeline of their first electric scooter. It will be introduced by March 2024 in the country.
They are developing the new e-scooter locally with the help of their team in Japan. It will be based on the high selling Activa scooter. The internal combustion engine will be replaced by the electric powertrain. Of course there will be some tweaks to the mechanicals to accommodate the electric powertrain.
This Activa based scooter will have a fixed battery setup and it will have a top speed of 50 km/hr. There will be slight changes in the styling to differentiate the ICE and electric scooter.
After this, Honda is planning to introduce an all-new electric scooter. This will be based on a brand new platform dedicated for the electric powertrain.
This will compete with the new high performance electric scooters in the market. It will get new tech including swappable battery. The Japanese bike maker will set up 6000 battery swapping touchpoints across the country to create the new ecosystem for their electric two-wheeler.
The company will be investing heavily to localise the electric motor and the battery. Along with this, they will make changes to their manufacturing plant to produce both ICE and electric two-wheelers under one roof.
Honda believes customers with limited running will opt for electric Activa but those who travel longer distances will still prefer the ICE version of the Activa.
