The 25 top selling bikes list for the month of May 2018 witnesses the Hero Splendor regain its number 1 spot from the Honda Activa.
April 2018 started off with a positive note for the domestic 2-wheeler industry in India but the month of May saw a slight downfall in terms of volumes. 11 players in the top selling list have posted a negative growth in volumes but having said that, the Hero Splendor reclaimed its first spot in the 25 top selling bikes list of May 2018 by defeating the Honda Activa. The commuter motorcycle sold 2,80,763 units as against 2,72,475 units sold of the Honda Activa.
Japanese auto giant Suzuki sold 1381 and 4185 units of the Intruder and Gixxer respectively. Meanwhile, the Suzuki Let’s and Hayate managed to sell 871 and 461 units respectively. Yamaha managed to move 2300, 3960, 1856 and 11,660 units of the Alpha, SZ, FZ25 and Ray respectively. The R3 sold 80 units in May 2018. Royal Enfield sold a total of 72,510 2-wheelers last month with the Classic 350 contributing over 70% to the sales. The Thunderbird 350 and 500 sold 4316 and 383 units respectively while the Himalayan and Bullet 350 registered sales of 1067 and 10,180 units respectively. The Classic 500 managed to find 2368 homes in May 2018.
Bajaj Auto, the homegrown automaker, sold 1,92,543 vehicles in May as opposed to 2,00,742 units in April. The Discover series managed to sell 15,158 units while the V15 sold 1918 units. Bajaj’s flagship bike, the Dominar 400 found 1191 takers. TVS XL Super, Apache series and the Jupiter continue to rake in the volumes for the Chennai-based company. The NTORQ 125 sold 14,695 units while the Scooty Zest, Scooty Pep+, Wego, Victor and the Star City clocked sales of 4760, 9773, 3411, 8889 and 11,774 units respectively. Their flagship bike, the Apache RR 310 sold just 595 units in May as opposed to 862 units in April 2018.
With an extensive scooter line-up, Honda has managed to sell over 5.67 lakh 2-wheelers in May 2018. The CLIQ sold 2066 units while the Navi sold 428 units. The CB Unicorn 160 registered sales of 2204 units and 8273 units of the CB Hornet 160R were sold. The recently launched Honda X-Blade garnered sales of 10,253 units. Apart from the HF Dawn, Achiever and the Xtreme, all other Hero bikes and scooters can be found in the list above.
