The 150cc motorcycle segment continues to see a lot of action and before Honda puts its 160cc motorcycle (delayed thanks to Suzuki’s Gixxer) on the road, it will be Hero’s Xtreme Sports which will go on sale. The bike was recently spotted by us and is due for launch in December. It will be positioned as Hero’s flagship 150cc motorcycle, sitting above the regular Xtreme which too was refreshed recently. The Hero Xtreme Sports will rival the Suzuki Gixxer, Yamaha FZ and Honda CB Trigger (till the 160cc bike goes on sale which will hit showrooms only next year).
The Hero Xtreme Sports looks more appealing than the regular Xtreme whose headlight assembly manages to ruin its sharp and edgy design. The motorcycle also gets an elongated tank extension to boast of the ‘Sports’ name. The engine gets a guard underneath while the side panels have been changed too. The exhaust too gets a different design while the seats are now split for a sporty appearance. One can notice the silver finishing of panels behind the engine as opposed to the all black treatment on the regular Xtreme. Surely the Xtreme Sports looks much better than the regular model.
Among other changes is an all new instrument cluster which isn’t as appealing as the regular Xtreme’s. If you notice closely, you won’t find the keyhole because Hero has positioned it on the side, similar to how it’s seen on cruiser bikes. The biggest change to the Xtreme Sports is the engine output, while it’s the same 149cc Honda mill generating 12.8 Nm of torque, it gets a power bump of 1 BHP, thus belting out 15.2 BHP which is sure to give it performance gains. As per our assumptions, the Xtreme Sports will be as far as the Suzuki Gixxer, taking under 18 seconds to do the 0-100 km/hr sprint.
