Production-ready Hero Xtreme 200R has been showcased in India with official launch scheduled for April this year.
Attempting to enter the lucrative performance motorcycle segment of India, Hero MotoCorp has showcased the production-spec Xtreme 200 after almost two years of its Auto Expo debut in early 2016. Named as the Hero Xtreme 200R, the domestic automaker has positioned it as a roadster to go against the likes of Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 and TVS Apache 200. However, the motorcycle is lacking behind on paper in performance and styling aspects when compared to the aforementioned rivals.
By design, Hero Xtreme 200R largely resembles the concept version showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo with its bold street-fighter stance and seamless integration of body graphics. While the motorcycle does show a lack of muscle, it comes with some attractive features which include eyebrow-shaped LED pilot lamps, part-digital instrument cluster, alloy wheels, LED tail lamp, contoured seat, single-channel ABS and so on. The bike will be offered in 5 dual-tone paint schemes – Panther Black with Cool Silver, Panther Black with Red, Sports Red, Techno Blue and Charcoal Grey with Orange.
Powered by a 199.6cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine derived from the Hero Achiever’s 150cc mill, the Xtreme 200R puts out 18.1 HP of power at 8000 RPM and 17.1 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. The outdated nature of mechanicals is evident due to the fact that the engine is carburetted and comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. It takes around 4.6 seconds to propel the Xtreme 200R to 60 km/hr and comes with a rated top speed of 114 km/hr. Also, there is a balancer shaft in place to cut down engine vibrations. The bike comes suspended on 37 mm telescopic forks at the front and 8-step adjustable mono shock suspension at the rear.
Braking is performed by disc brakes, with rotors measuring 276 mm at the front and 220 mm at the rear, and the Xtreme 200R gets an optional single-channel ABS to prevent the front wheel from skidding in emergency braking situations. Bookings for the new offering are expected to start across Hero MotoCorp dealerships soon. Meanwhile, the Karizma maker is also gearing up for some important launches at the upcoming 2018 Auto Expo which include the XPulse motorcycle and a new gearless scooter.
