Hero expanding its V2 lineup with a more affordable variant, recently spotted testing

Hero MotoCorp’s electric mobility arm, Vida, appears to be preparing an entry-level addition to its V2 electric scooter lineup. A test mule believed to be a new version of the V2—potentially named the “Vida V2 Z”—was recently spotted testing without camouflage, signalling that a market debut could be on the horizon.

The undisguised prototype, finished in a bright yellow single-tone color, shares many design cues with the existing V2 family, including LED lighting elements, dual-spoke alloy wheels, telescopic front suspension and twin rear shock absorbers. However, subtle revisions such as a repositioned tail lamp, an updated front apron and a streamlined single-piece grab rail and seat point to a distinct design identity.

First showcased at EICMA 2024 in Milan, the new variant appears to be tailored for both domestic and international markets. Based on its simpler styling and likely feature omissions, industry observers speculate that this version could be positioned below the current entry-level V2 Lite, aiming to attract more price-conscious buyers.

If positioned as a budget offering, the new model is expected to share the same 2.2 kWh battery pack found in the V2 Lite, which delivers a claimed range of 94 km. Alternatively, the cosmetic changes and refreshed design could indicate Hero’s intent to introduce it as a separate model rather than a V2 variant.

The current Hero Vida V2 lineup consists of three trims: Lite, Plus and Pro. These vary in terms of battery capacity and performance. The top-spec Pro variant comes with a 3.94 kWh battery offering a claimed range of 165 km and can sprint from 0 to 40 km/hr in just 2.9 seconds.

Across the range, the scooters feature removable batteries, LED lighting, keyless entry, regenerative braking, cruise control and digital TFT displays. The Pro variant further adds four ride modes for added versatility.

As rival brands like Bajaj, TVS, Ola and Ultraviolette continue to launch more affordable or value-focused EV models, Hero appears to be responding with a competitive entry. While official details such as pricing, final specifications and launch timelines are yet to be confirmed, the new model could help Vida further strengthen its foothold in the increasingly competitive electric two-wheeler segment.
