Hero MotoCorp has announced a new variant of the Xtreme, called the Xtreme Sports. The bike is powered by a 149.2cc, air-cooled engine, aka the same Honda motor which is now very famous for powering a slew of vehicles. However Hero has updated the power output, the Xtreme Sports outputs 15.2 BHP of power at 8500 RPM and 12.80 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The bike uses telescopic front forks and 5-step adjustable twin shocks at the rear. Braking duties are performed by a 240 mm disc at the front and 130 mm drum at the rear (220 mm rear disc is optional).
The Hero Xtreme Sports weighs in at 148 kgs while the rear disc variant is 1 kg heavier. The dimensions are as follows – length 2100 mm, width 780 mm, height 1080 mm while the ground clearance is 160 mm. Other changes to the Hero Xtreme Sports include new body graphics, new headlamp with LED position lights, maintenance free battery and speedometer with side stand indicator. The front uses a 80/100/18 tyre while the rear makes do with a 110/90/18 tyre (tubeless mounted on cast wheels). The specifications are very similar to the regular Xtreme model.
The regular Hero Xtreme produces 14.4 BHP of power and 12.80 Nm of torque. We are wondering how Hero has bumped up the power output but the torque output hasn’t increased one bit. Both power and torque outputs of the Xtreme and Xtreme Sports comes in at the same RPMs which is a bit weird. The sportier version of the Hero Xtreme is offered in five colours namely red, silver, black, orange and black red.
With the unveil of the Hero Xtreme Sports, India’s largest 2-wheeler manufacturer wants to take the lead in the 150cc segment The Xtreme Sports is the most powerful 2-valve motorcycle in its class. Suzuki recently unveiled the Gixxer 150cc motorcycle which is likely to be more powerful than the 13.8 BHP GS150R but we doubt if it will produce in excess of 15 BHP. With 15.2 BHP of of power, the Xtreme is going to be a fast 150cc motorcycle which will relive the original CBZ’s tagline of “Super Sprint”. The launch will take place in the next couple of months.
