Making electric mobility accessible to the masses, Hero MotoCorp showcased the SimplEcity motorcycle concept at the 2014 Auto Expo. The concept is India’s first electric motorcycle and features a light weight body and a design system for optimum performance in city conditions.
The company has packed in an all electric setup inclusive of regenerative rear wheel braking through e-motor, by keeping the weight to a minimum for longer range. The seat and taillight and battery pack which can be removed individually and carried in-door for charging. The vehicle details are shown on the dashboard interface which uses a smart phone app called ‘Hero SimplEcity app‘mounted on the handlebars. The lightweight motorcycle is also capable of roll on the side with the walk mode, when you choose to walk or want to move it up stairs.
The electric hub motor generates a max power of 4 KW and is powered by a lightweight lithium-ion battery. The electric motorcycle measures 1981 mm, 711 mm and 930 mm in length, width and height respectively with a kerb weight of just 35 kgs. Suspension duties are taken care by hydraulic telescopic forks up front and adjustable shock absorber at the rear. Hero is optimistic of the practicality the simplEcity will be able to provide in real world conditions to its customers in the future.
