Hero MotoCorp is planning to add 6 scooters to its lineup by 2020.
Hero MotoCorp recently launched the Destini 125 scooter and the company is now planning to challenge the scooter segment leader Honda. The country’s largest two-wheeler maker is working to add 6 new scooter models to their lineup in the next 8-12 months.
At present, Hero has four scooters in their portfolio – Duet, Maestro Edge, Pleasure and Destini 125. Hero is looking to expand its presence in the fast-growing scooter segment, where its presence is small compared to competitors. As per Hero, the scooter market is witnessing a shift towards the 125cc segment. The 125cc scooter segment has 20 percent of the total scooter space which witnessed a growth of 75 percent since April 2018.
Hero has more than a 60 percent share in India’s mass-market motorcycle segment. However, in scooter, it just has 10.42 percent market share. Whereas scooter segment leader Honda has almost 60 percent market share, thanks largely to the Activa’s dominance. Hero had lost the second spot in highest selling scooters a few years ago to TVS Motor.
The company will be launching the Maestro Edge 125 before the end of the fiscal year, followed by a new 110cc model next. This scooter will be completely new and apart from its current models.
