A few days back, Hero MotoCorp’s MD confirmed plans of bringing 12 new products to the 2014 Auto Expo. This is the first Auto Expo where Hero is participating with its own products, in the previous years, all products showcased were result of the Hero Honda collaboration. The company shocked everyone yesterday with the unveil of 5 new products which means 7 more will make their debut at the upcoming Auto Expo. The Auto Expo is the biggest motoring event in India, held once in every 2 years and thus automobile manufacturers take it very seriously.
Now 7 new products could be anything. Considering Hero has already refreshed its complete lineup, we don’t expect anything existing to be showcased, except maybe the new Hunk and updated Pleasure. Just imagine what those products could be considering innovation is flourishing at Hero’s R&D centre. Hero has hinted it plans to make higher capacity bikes and thus 400cc, 500cc bikes will also be launched, although the time frame remains unknown but we expect it not before 2016. Bajaj Auto will also move on to 500cc bikes by the same time.
What we are quite sure is, Hero might unveil a new 125cc scooter at the 2014 Auto Expo as its arch rival Honda too plans to unveil a 125cc scooter. The company should also consider making a 180-200cc bike which will fit the requirements of those looking for a performance machine on a budget. A high performance 150cc bike to rival the Honda CBR150R and Yamaha R15 should also be developed. An all new 150cc bike to rival the Honda CB Trigger and soon to be launched Suzuki Gixxer could also be on the cards. Maybe an affordable twin-cylinder sports bike could change the game. Take all this with a pinch of salt, we are merely speculating.
