Hero MotoCorp has revealed that it will initiate a temporary plant shutdown across all of its facilities as a precautionary measure amid the spread of second wave of COVID-19.
This temporary suspension of manufacturing operations, says Hero MotoCorp, is in keeping with its commitment to the “safety and welfare of its people”.
Every manufacturing plant of Hero will remain shut for 4 days in a staggered manner between 22nd April and 1st May 2021 and will resume normal operations post the notified Hero plant shutdown period. The same would be applied to its Global Parts Center (GPC) as well.
The company says it will utilise these plant shutdown days to carry out necessary maintenance work and assures it will not impact its ability to meet the demand for its products.
However, due to localised shutdowns in many States, demand is said to have been impacted at the moment. Hero also states production loss will be compensated during the remainder of the quarter.
The firm had planned to launch 10 products every year till 2025. It is to be seen if the plan will be revised on basis of the current situation.
Further, all of Hero MotoCorp’s corporate offices are already following the ‘Work from Home’ model, with very limited staff present at the offices on a rotating basis for continuity of essential services.
With Hero having taken the initiative, based on the local scenario, other bike and car manufacturers are expected to announce similar decisions in the near term.
