Hero MotoCorp has been extensively working on new products and the company knows the scooter market is important and thus four new scooters were showcased in the past couple of months. These four scooters are none other than the Leap, Dash, Dare and Zir. The company is working on yet another scooter, called the Hero Duet which was to be showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo but wasn’t ready and thus did not make it to the biennial event. The Duet scooter will be launched by Hero MotoCorp in the domestic market next year.
The Hero Duet will share the engine with the Hero Dash, which is the 110cc engine that outputs 8.44 BHP of peak power at 7500 RPM and 9.4 Nm of peak torque at 5750 RPM. The power being produced by this air-cooled motor is good enough for slick performance in the city. The Duet will borrow some features from the Zir, which will be launched later this year. The Hero Zir is a 150cc scooter and the Duet being a 110cc scooter is two segments down. Thus one can expect the Hero Duet to be positioned above the Hero Dash, being priced at a slight premium over the latter.
The scooter segment is booming in India and almost every manufacturer is working on expanding its scooter portfolio. Honda had recently showcased the Activa 125 which will go on sale later this year while Yamaha is working on the Ray 125 set for launch near the festive season. Suzuki will commence sales of its new Let’s scooter next month while Piaggio launched a new variant of the Vespa scooter just yesterday. The only company missing out on the action is Bajaj Auto, who doesn’t care one bit about the growing scooter market, keeping itself completely focussed on motorcycles.
