Hero MotoCorp beat Honda India in terms of exports with 79,956 units shipped out of the country as opposed to the 77,814 units shipped out by Honda.
As per the figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Hero MotoCorp bagged the title of being the largest scooter exporter in India for the financial year 2014-15, having exported 79,956 units scooters from its facility. The Indian two-wheeler giant saw a whopping 356.24 percent growth in its scooter exports as compared to the 17,525 units shipped in the previous fiscal year 2013-14. The scooter in demand is the Maestro which is nothing but a rehashed Activa.
The new found growth in exports helped Hero beat ex-partner Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) as the country’s largest scooter exporter. In comparison, Honda India wasn’t far behind and shipped out 77,814 units in the 2014-15 fiscal as opposed to the 15,932 units exported in the 2013-14 financial year, witnessing a growth of 49.8 percent. Honda is trying its best to beat ex-partner Hero to the top spot in the Indian market and plans to launch a new product every quarter, even if the launch is nothing but a sticker job like the 2015 Dream Neo and Dio.
Apart from Hero and Honda, Suzuki exported 5712 units in the last financial year, a healthy increase in volumes from the 699 units it shipped in 2013-14 but still quite low in comparison to Hero and Honda. Yamaha India, on the other hand, shipped 6271 units in the 2014-15 fiscal, up from the 1635 units exported in 2013-14. Hero MotoCorp is set to launch new range of scooters in the market this year that will also be exported and will further help the automaker retain its new number one title in exports for the current 2015-16 fiscal.
