Harley-Davidson X440 to get new variants and will be joined by an all-new bike

Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson are set to deepen their collaboration, with plans for new variants of the Harley-Davidson X440 and the development of a completely new motorcycle. The details were revealed in a SEBI filing by Hero MotoCorp, signaling the next phase in the partnership between the Indian two-wheeler giant and the iconic American bikemaker.

Expanding the X440 Range

The Harley-Davidson X440, launched in 2023, marked the first fruit of this partnership. Hero MotoCorp followed it up with the introduction of the Mavrick 440 in early 2024, a derivative model aimed at expanding their reach in the premium motorcycle segment. According to the filing, the X440 lineup will soon see additional variants designed for both Indian and select international markets.

Adding to the intrigue, Hero MotoCorp had earlier trademarked the name “Nightster 440,” sparking speculation that this could be one of the new variants in the pipeline. While no official confirmation has been provided, the trademark suggests that the Nightster 440 may soon join the X440 family.

Development of a New Model

In addition to the expanded X440 lineup, the partnership is also focusing on an all-new motorcycle. While specific details are scarce, industry analysts suggest that the new model could explore untapped market segments. Potential options include larger capacity motorcycles in the 500 to 600cc range, which could compete with more premium offerings, or a move into the 350cc category, where competitors like Royal Enfield dominate.

The Evolution of a Partnership

Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson first joined forces in 2020, with Hero taking over Harley’s sales and service network in India. The partnership’s goal was to jointly develop premium motorcycles that would appeal to both Indian and global audiences. Since then, the companies have launched the X440 and Mavrick 440, with plans now clearly in motion to further expand their portfolio.

At the recent EICMA 2024 show, Hero showcased an updated Mavrick 440, hinting at the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation and collaboration within this partnership.

Looking Ahead

The next steps for the Hero-Harley partnership could redefine their presence in the premium motorcycle market. By adding new X440 variants and introducing a second model, the companies aim to cater to diverse consumer preferences and potentially disrupt existing market dynamics. Whether they choose to go bigger with higher-capacity models or challenge competitors in the 350 cc segment, the collaboration holds promise for both brands and their audiences worldwide.

As the companies continue to unveil details, motorcycle enthusiasts and industry watchers alike will be keen to see how this partnership evolves.
