Hero has postponed the launch of the HX250R to October as the Indian 2-wheeler giant isn’t ready with the motorcycle yet and doesn’t want to launch it in a hurry.

Hero MotoCorp showcased its new flagship the HX250R with much fanfare last year and the bike has been eagerly awaited ever since by the masses for the absolutely overwhelming figures it boasts on paper. While a launch date is not in sight, our sources close to the company state that the HX250R will be coming to the market in the last quarter of this year around the festive season (mostly October), commanding a price tag close to Rs. 2 lakhs.
The Hero HX250R uses a 249cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with fuel injection that is tuned to produce 31 PS of power and 26 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed transmission. The bike gets switchable power modes, producing 31 PS in performance mode while in normal mode it outputs 24 PS. With a weight of just 139 kgs, the HX250R promises an overwhelming power-to-weight ratio with 0-100 km/hr estimated to take 8 seconds while top speed is expected to be over 160 km/hr. ABS won’t be standard but will be offered as an option.
While it was speculated that the HX250R would come with a price tag of Rs. 1.5 lakhs recently, the cost has been increasing on the model pushing the price close to Rs. 2 lakhs. Hence, the quarter-litre offering will now be competing against the likes of the KTM RC 390 and the upcoming Honda CBR250R, instead of the Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS and the TVS Apache 200. Hero’s main rival is Honda and not Bajaj, hence they are pitching the HX250R against the CBR250R. The quarter-litre bike will be Hero’s first dabble in the performance segment with partner EBR and also gets styling inspired by its American partner.
