Development of Hero BS6 bikes commences as the company aims to introduce such bikes well ahead of the 2020 deadline.
The BS6 emission norms will kick in from 2020 and Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest 2-wheeler manufacturer, has already started developing BS6 compliant bikes as it aims to launch them before the 2020 deadline.
The company has lined up half a dozen product launches across segments in the current financial year to push growth. Hero MotoCorp is all eyes on the premium motorcycle and the scooters space. A 200cc sports-bike offering is in the pipeline. Hero is not only focused on new launches, but is also engaging with the external ecosystem including startups. The company has collaborated with Ather Energy, a Bengaluru based startup that is into manufacturing electric 2-wheelers.
A planned capital expenditure of Rs. 2500 crores in the next two fiscals will help Hero MotoCorp in developing new products, phase-wise capacity installation and expansion of facilities in Gujarat, upcoming plants in Andhra Pradesh and Bangladesh. Hero says this investment will also help in upgrading the already existing plant and machinery.
With a 36.9 percent market share in the domestic market, the firm also has presence in 35 other countries spread across Asia, Africa, South and Central America. Hero MotoCorp would be commencing operations in the Bangladesh facility in sometime and in fact it would be the company’s second manufacturing facility at a global location after Cali, Colombia.
