Harley-Davidson is known for the best gasoline powered engines for their cruiser range, right from 500cc to 1700cc of capacity. The cult and fan following is massive throughout the world and despite shortcomings people just adore the brand with their eyes closed. Harley took a new step by making liquid-cooled engines for the new Street range, a product which is a brand new platform after almost 13 years. However, the Street has not stopped Harley-Davidson to go ahead. The company is set to introduce electric powered motorcycles from its stable.
News first came in when Harley trademarked the name “Livewire” (so American) for its upcoming motorcycle. Livewire can be used for other reasons as well. A Harley named Livewire was seen in the extremely hit movie ‘The Avengers’. This motorcycle can be pure electric or may be a hybrid for those fans who cannot and will not digest the fact that a Harley-Davidson can be fully electric. The V-Twin motor on the other hand will continue to please the enthusiast and fans worldwide.
Harley-Davidson is making this attempt which is not a surprise as most American manufacturers have stepped in such as Brammo and Zero, becoming quite famous in the States. This Harley-Davidson is powered by a three-phase induction motor with 74 BHP of power and 70.46 Nm of torque. That means the Harley-Davidson Livewire is good for just over 80 kms of mixed city and highway riding, being limited to a top speed of 148 km/hr. Expect the bike which has torque from 1 RPM to redline to go from 0-60 km/hr in around 4 seconds. All of this makes it slightly underpowered when compared to competition as torque and power should be even more in a cruiser motorcycle. A new chapter begins for Harley if it manages to get a nod from customers, enthusiasts and the media to go ahead with production.
