Harley-Davidson has since received encouraging response from its fans across the country. With its signature V-twin engine and the human heartbeat like exhaust note, Harley-Davidson has a cult following in India, even though the high price tag of the American motorcycles makes them out of reach for a majority of the population. Now Harley-Davidson has decided to bump up the prices of its bikes even higher, due to the recent weakening of the rupee against the dollar.

Harley-Davidson has decided to increase the prices of its select models by Rs. 30,000/-. The price increase will be applicable on the Street 750, Sportster family and Softail range of bikes in India. The new prices will come into effect from 1st April. At present, Harley-Davidson sells a total of 13 models in the Indian market between a range of approximately Rs. 5 lakhs to Rs. 50 lakhs.

The affected models which are covered in this price hike are the Street 750, the Sportster family of Iron 883, 1200 Custom and Forty-Eight models and the Softail family which also has three models in the lineup namely the Fat Boy, Breakout and the Heritage Softail Classic. Out of all the Harley-Davidson models, only one (Street 750) is manufactured in India at the Bawal (Haryana) plant. The rest are assembled at the completely-knocked-down unit at Bawal. The Street 750 (along with the Street 500) is also exported from here to other countries such as Australia and Japan.

Harley-Davidson started its Indian journey in 2009. The manufacturer has opened 21 stores in the country since then and has sold over 12,000 motorcycles in the country. The Street 750, the lowest price bike in Harley-Davidson’s India line-up, makes up for almost 45% of the company’s sales every month. Harley-Davidson is also looking to make inroads into two-tier cities to further expand its footprint across the country.
