The Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric bike has been listed on the official website in India, indicating it is going to be launched soon.
The electric revolution is at your door. It’s been hyped and criticised but the commotion is just not settling down. With names such as Hyundai (Kona), Tata (Altroz), Maruti Suzuki (Wagon R EV), etc. clouding the upcoming (electric!) 4-wheeler space, Harley-Davidson is gearing up to launch its first 2-wheeler electric motorcycle in the bunch. Hailed as the Harley-Davidson LiveWire, this motorcycle is priced at $29,799 in the US market and will cost close to Rs. 20.5 lakhs when launched in India.
After introducing the Harley-Davidson LiveWire as a concept vehicle at the EICMA 2018 motorcycle show and the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019, the company has listed this electric bike on its Indian website, under the ‘Future Vehicles’ category, stamping its arrival in the market. Though there is no official announcement on the launch, expect the bike to hit stores sometime in 2020.
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire, with the 15.5 kWh battery pack, claims to run 235 kms on a full charge. With a DC Fast Charge, the battery can recharge to 80% in 40 minutes and 100% in 1 hour while a standard AC powered wall charger will take around 12-13 hours for a full recharge.
The electric motor propelling the Harley-Davidson LiveWire belts out 103 PS of power and a peak torque of 116 Nm while it claims to hit triple-digit-speed from a standstill in just 3 seconds. It also gets 7 riding modes – Sport, Road, Rain, Range, and three custom modes.
Features on the Harley-Davidson LiveWire include a 2.3-inch TFT display, all-LED lighting, Showa Balance Free Rear Cushion-lite monoshock, fully adjustable 43 mm upside-down Showa Separate Function Big Piston front fork along with twin 300 mm discs at the front with 4 piston radially-mounted callipers and 260 mm disc at the rear with a floating calliper.
In terms of safety, it gets Reflex Defensive Rider Systems (RDRS), Cornering Anti-lock Braking System (C-ABS), Cornering Traction Control System (C-TCS) and Drag-Torque Slip Control System (DSCS).
