After unveiling the motorcycle at the India Bike Week earlier in January, Harley-Davidson has officially launched the most awaited Street 750 cruiser in India at the 2014 Auto Expo. The Harley-Davidson Street 750 carries forward all essential values of the American brand on its shoulders and is designed to please younger customers who ride mostly in the city. Harley-Davidson has also showcased the Street Bob and Street Glide at the event.
Harley is sure to find volumes with the Street 750 in our country with the increasing demand for premium bikes. Keeping their promise, Harley has priced the Street 750 at a mouth watering Rs. 4.10 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), keeping the on-road price under Rs. 5 lakhs. The wait for several enthusiasts and potential buyers has surely paid off. This is by far the most affordable Harley you can buy in India, at least until the Street 500 goes on sale. Bookings for the Street 750 open on 1st March with deliveries starting in June.
The Street 750 has the Harley DNA embedded in its design, but has been tweaked to be more fun and practical as opposed to the regular Harley’s. The bike was built from scratch after conducting a survey in 11 countries and speaking to 3000 young potential customers. The result is such that the bike has received some very practical changes. The handle bars are wider, there is two-inches of more suspension travel for comfort and the ground clearance has been increased by two-inches compared to any other Harley. The bike retains the masculine lines and has a striking presence, just like a Harley.
This motorcycle is aimed at newer riders and the seat height suggests that it will be comfortable for short people as well. The styling has been given a retro appeal, inspired from the old Harley’s. However, the round headlight looks too boring to be true. The seat appears to be very comfortable and should be good for long rides, whereas the pillion seat is too small for practical use. The Street 750 uses an analogue instrument cluster and the switches are basic but of good quality. The overall build quality on the Street 750 is impressive. The styling will grow on you with time.
Harley-Davidson has also launched its range of customisation options for the Street 750, considering you want your ride to look different. From paint options to handlebars, alloy wheels, lights and much more; you can have your Street 750 customised as per your tastes. The entire range of customisation has been displayed at the H-D pavilion.
The Street 750 uses a 749cc, four-valve, V-Twin engine with liquid cooling which is called Revolution X. The engine is capable of producing 65 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The bike uses a completely new platform and weighs around 218 kgs. The cruiser features a 2-into-1 exhaust and uses MRF Zapper tyres, with a 17-inch at the front and a 15-incher at the rear that have been specifically developed for the Street 750.
The Street 750 will be completely manufactured in the country. Harley has resorted to heavy localisation on the Street 750 to keep costs in check and provide the best price possible. Harley-Davidson will also be exporting the 750 and the 500 to other Asian and European countries, but the Street 500 will be launched in India next year.
