Harley is back in India and is banking on Hero’s strong dealership network

Harley-Davidson and Hero Motocorp have inked a distribution deal for the Indian market and the formal announcement of the same has been made today.

The two companies will, from now on, ride together in India with Hero given the rights to sell and service Harley-Davidson motorcycles as per a distribution agreement.

According to the 2-wheeler manufacturers, this arrangement is mutually beneficial for both companies and riders in India, as it brings together the iconic American brand and the largest 2-wheeler maker (in terms of volumes) with its strong distribution network and customer service.

As part of a licensing agreement, Hero will also develop and sell a range of premium motorcycles under the Harley-Davidson brand name.

Also, Hero will from now on sell parts, accessories, riding gear, apparel and general merchandise of the American brand.

This will be done through an exclusive network of Harley-Davidson dealers and Hero MotoCorp’s existing dealership network in India.

This Harley-Davidson Hero MotoCorp deal comes close on the heels of Harley’s India exit and the actions, the American firm says, are aligned with its business overhaul dubbed “The Rewire”.

Now, Harley owners can heave a sigh of relief for they will not have to worry about keeping their bikes up and running without any issues.

We have to wait and see if Hero takes over all of Harley’s dealerships or begins new ones in their place. Watch this space for further developments.
