The Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp deal might very well be announced sooner than expected as the firms are reportedly in advanced talks with regard to the matter.
It was only yesterday (24th September 2020) that the Milwaukee-based firm announced it will be closing its manufacturing facility at Bawal, Haryana.
If the deal goes through and the alliance is formed, Hero would become the master distributor of Harley-Davidson bikes in India, meaning, the top Indian 2-wheeler maker will import and sell Harley bikes in our country.
There is another aspect to the Harley-Davidson, Hero deal as well, something that might be strategic for the American brand. It pertains to Hero becoming a contract manufacturer for Harley.
At least one upcoming Harley-Davidson motorcycle having an engine within 300-600cc capacity will be manufactured by Hero MotoCorp, if both brands come to a mutual agreement.
Although the firms are said to be in advanced talks, financial details of the deal are not yet clear.
Hero MotoCorp is India’s largest 2-wheeler manufacturer and Harley-Davidson tried its best to gain a strong foothold only to fall behind on its targets. Hopefully the upcoming alliance will bring about a change the American firm would welcome.
