Harley-Davidson entry level bike to target larger audience competing against Royal Enfield.
“More Roads to Harley-Davidson” strategy in Q1 has made the American motorcycle maker plan towards a partnership. This will be done to come up with a premium small displacement offering in the Asian market. The premium bike maker plans to expand their reach in the Asian region.
The new entry-level Harley-Davidson is just over a year away from its launch. The premium brand will become more accessible to the emerging market customers. The new entry-level bike is expected to compete in the 250-300cc segment to compete against the Royal Enfield bikes.
Currently, the Harley-Davidson range starts from the Street 750, which is manufactured in India. The bike maker’s smallest capacity motorcycle is the Street 500 which is not offered in the Indian market. The upcoming quarter litre cruiser motorcycle from Harley-Davidson is likely to carry the Street badge as well.
We expect the American bike maker to offer a V-Twin engine with the smaller displacement engine with power figures likely to be around 30 HP. The pricing is expected to be around Rs. 2.5-3 lakhs.
With heavy localisation in India, expect the pricing to be competitive which will give some sleepless nights to the Indian bike maker Royal Enfield. The two-wheeler market is experiencing radical changes of late. Royal Enfield is working towards competing with Harley-Davidson by introducing high capacity premium motorcycles. Harley-Davidson on the other hand is preparing to target Royal Enfield with a low capacity motorcycle.
