Haima Automobile might showcase electrified vehicles for its public debut.
Chinese carmaker Haima Automobile has confirmed its entry into the Indian automotive sector. The 3-decade old pioneer passenger car manufacturer will debut at the Auto Expo 2020 with the Great Wall Motors. The company has partnered with Bird Group which is a dealer of BMW and Mini vehicles in India for its India operations. It is also a distributor of Segway personal transporters. Haima is currently in talks with OEM component manufacturers as well as the central and state governments.
Even though Haima is yet to confirm the models under consideration for India, the company’s association with the EV vertical of the Bird Group hints that the brand is planning to showcase electrified vehicles at its Auto Expo 2020 public debut. The speculation is bagged by the fact that Haima has already showcased a range of all-electric vehicles, including the Aishang 360 hatchback, E3 midsize sedan, E5 SUV and E7 MPV in China.
Haima Automobile originally sold rebadged Mazda models in China before eventually been taken over by Chinese state-owned First Automobile Works, now known as the FAW Group. While the Chinese carmaker is now developing its own range of SUVs, MPVs and electrified vehicles, up until a few years ago, most models sold by the company were based on ageing Mazda platforms.
