After Changan Automobile, Haima Automobile has also delayed their entry in India. Due to the disruption in business around the world amidst the ongoing pandemic and also the recent India China tussle, the entry of the Chinese carmaker is deffered.
Haima showcased their own products 7X MPV and 8S SUV at the Auto Expo 2020. While these products were not confirmed for India launch, it was the Haima Bird Electric EV1 hatchback that was being developed for the Indian market.
The Chinese carmaker collaborated with Indian EV maker Bird Electric to come up with an electric hatchback. It was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 and both the brands announced the launch within 15 months, which means by early 2021.
The Bird Electric EV 1 is sourced from Haima as a base car. Bird Electric, Director, Ankur Bhatia says that the company will commercially launch the EV on the given timeline and make the product commercially viable. He says the engineers who were working on the design and upgradation of the product are not able to travel due to the lockdown, they are working jointly with China and India.
The design was supposed to be finalised by now but it is delayed. The electric hatch has a claimed range of up to 300 km. The electric motor produces 28.5 kWh and 105 Nm of torque. It has a top speed of 120 km/hr. They announced the price range of Rs. 10 lakhs for India. Currently there is no clarity on the timeline of launch.
