General Motors unveiled the all new Chevrolet Adra Concept SUV at the 12th Auto Expo held in Delhi NCR. This marks the global debut of the concept and gives a preview of the compact crossover from GM would look like. The Chevrolet Adra concept SUV was completely developed by Indian designers at the GM Technical Centre-India (GMTC-I) in Bangalore.
On the outset, the concept looks very chunky and certainly the designers have done a commendable job. The styling has been kept more angular for a pronounced masculine appeal and rugged look. The flat front facia, raised hood, accentuated wheel arches all add to the SUV’s brawny looks. The designers have added to black plastic cladding to the under body and sides of the car to complete the off-road SUV look. There are heavy influences of Chevrolet’s design language inculcated in the lines and creases of the Adra.
The Adra offers the advantages of a traditional SUV in terms of size and proportions with the high ground clearance, high seating position, all-round visibility and generous interior space with compact exterior dimensions.
The concept measures at 4.2 metres and won’t be able to benefit from excise duties, unless GM decides to trim it down and tuck it within the 4 metre mark. The car will boast of petrol and diesel engine options when launched and will be rivalling the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and the likes in the compact SUV segment in the country. GM has not specified a launch date as yet for the production version, but we do expect it to come by mid-2015 in India. The car will be exported to other markets as well.
