General Motors has launched the Chevrolet Sail sedan in India today, keeping events at multiple locations to announce the launch of the Aveo replacement. The Sail sedan is based on the Sail U-VA and thus it borrows all its underpinnings and mechnicals. The Sail sedan is manufactured at GM’s Talegaon facility near Pune. It is offered with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. Both engines are mated to 5-speed transmissions. The boot of the Sail is well integrated and boasts of 370-litres of space.
The Chevrolet Sail lacks quite a few features compared its chief rivals but the vehicle pulls back up with excellent interior room and a splendid ride quality. The petrol engine produces 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, while the diesel engine churns out 78 PS of power and 205 Nm of torque. The ARAI certified mileage is 18.2 km/l and 22.1 km/l for the petrol and diesel version respectively. Other than the boot, the changes to the Sail sedan over the Sail U-VA are minimal and also include a softer rear seat.

The company has tested the Sail over 63 lakh kms on different terrains in both India and overseas. The vehicle is offered with 3-year/1-lakh kms standard warranty, 5-year/1.5 lakh kms engine and transmission warranty and 3-year/45,000 kms Chevrolet Promise (optional), which takes care of complete vehicle maintenance GM has offered the Chevrolet Sail in 7 colors – red, white, silver, black, beige, misty lake and grey.
