GM India Finds Lack Of Infrastructure For EVs

General Motors had recently showcased an electric car. The company, which was working with REVA (till Mahindra took REVA over) has made its own Beat electric vehicle. However, there is no scope of electric vehicles in India according to head honchos at General Motors. The company feels that our country lacks the infrastructure, particularly power, which is essential for the success of an electric vehicle. With acute power shortage in the country for domestic purposes, there is very little scope of power being available for electric vehicles. We are still a good few years away from having electric vehicles.

“We have proved, by displaying the electric car in Delhi, that we have the technology. But where is the infrastructure, particularly power?” P Balendran, VP, GM India, said.

What is particularly interesting to note is, the Indian Government has be dolling out incentives to manufacturers who produce eco-friendly vehicles. But has our government thought anything about the power shortages which is being faced in certain parts of the country?
