General Motors has increased the price of the Chevrolet Beat Diesel by Rs. 15,000/-. The price hike is valid with immediate effect, ending the introductory price on the car. However its just not the Beat diesel which will be costlier to buy as GM is also going to raise prices of all its cars by 1-2% in January, 2012. The company blames the weakening rupee for the increase in input costs and has resorted to this measure. We have said this before and we will say it again, its not just this year but every year companies have some reason or the other to increase prices. Toyota, Maruti Suzuki too have announced price hikes while other manufactures are said to follow soon.
“In case of Beat diesel, we had an introductory price. Due to the current currency fluctuations and rising commodity prices, we have no option but pass it on to consumers. GM has hiked price of Beat diesel by Rs 15,000 with immediate effect, while the rest of the models’ prices will go up by 1-2 per cent by January,” P Balendran, Vice President, GM India, said.
