The 2021 Genesis G80 luxury sedan has been spotted on test in India even as the Hyundai-owned brand is formulating plans to set foot in the country.
Revealed internationally early last year, the G80 was seen in Mumbai without camouflage, save for white stickers covering the top part of the car.
Situated between the G70 and G90 luxury sedans in Genesis’ lineup, the 2021 Genesis G80 spotted on test has a flowing rear deck, split tail lights and twin exhaust outlets.
The luxury sedan has the brand’s name in bold letters on the boot, while a chrome strip sits just above.
Riding on 5-spoke alloy wheels, the G80 has fender vents, chrome window surround and a 4-door coupe look to it when seen from the side.
Although the front profile image of the spotted model is not available, the official pictures show the luxury sedan will feature the brand’s large “crest” radiator grille, split headlights and a nicely shaped air dam.
Inside, the car has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a rich cabin draped in leather and sporting wood and aluminium trim along with a crystal gear knob.
There are 2 petrol engine options – a 2.5-litre turbo 4-pot and a 3.5-litre V6 turbo – and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel unit available with the car that comes only with an 8-speed auto gearbox.
When Genesis enters India, it is expected to launch its SUVs, the GV80 and the new 2022 GV70, first and then possibly introduce its range of luxury sedans. The brand even trademarked several electric products in the nation last year.
If the G80 does get launched in India, it will rival the Mercedes E-class, BMW 5-Series, among others, but will likely undercut them in terms of pricing.
