A company known for its recalls more than its vehicles, General Motors has issued a recall for 1.01 lakh units of the Beat diesel in India.
It seems that General Motors really has a thing or two for recalls. The company, earlier this year, recalled 1.55 lakh units of the Spark, Beat and Enjoy to fix an issue related to the vehicle’s remote locking system. Now, the automaker is recalling 1.01 lakh units of the Beat diesel for fixing up another issue. The company has been notoriously known for recalls not only in India but also across the world.
The issue this time is related to the clutch pedal of the diesel variants of the Beat. The company states that there is a possibility that the pedal lever might crack under continuous usage. Hence, Chevrolet is contacting all owners of the affected vehicles and asking them to visit any of their service centres to get the check-up and replacement done. Cars manufactured from December 2010 to July 2014 are plagued with this issue.
Chevrolet has 248 service centres across the country and they will be carrying out the part replacement free of charge. This is said to be a voluntary recall. While it is definitely not a good thing to have so many recalls by the same manufacturer, what is good is the fact that the company is at least issuing voluntary recalls rather then waiting for people to complain and then act on individual cases.
The Chevrolet Beat was first launched in India in 2010 and then it received a mid-life facelift in 2014. The Beat is a good car but it has been losing out to other vehicles like the Maruti Celerio and the Hyundai Grand i10, both of which are selling in pretty good numbers every month. The Beat is offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.0-litre diesel engine.
